Frequently Asked Questions
Program Usage Issues
Is there any functional limitation in the trial version?
No, the trial version is fully functional except that it will stop working after 15 days from its initial date of installation on the installed computer.
What will happen to my backups after the 15-days trial period?
Upon the expiration of the evaluation period, Live Backup Now stops working, but your backups remain intact. You can easily access them via common methods, e.g. with Windows Explorer. If they are encrypted, you will have to use standard zip compress software to winzip to decrypt them.
Is it supported on Windows 7?
It is supported on all editions of windows 7, including x64 editions..
What is the maximum amount of data I can back up?
There is no maximum amount of data that can be selected in a backup job. Size of your backups is limited only by your system resources.
What will happen if a source directory is not ready?
If a source directory being monitored is not available (e.g. because the directory is on a removable drive which is not attached), then this directory will be ignored until it is attached again. As soon as the directory is identified again the corresponding files will be backed up again when being modified afterwards.
What will happen if the target directory is not ready?
If the target directory is not available (e.g. because the directory is on a network drive which is not attached), Live Backup Now will pop a notification to ask the user to connet the backup drive, and then the Live Backup Now will backup all files to temp folder and move them to targat directory when targat directory is found.
Is it possible to backup an open file?
If Live Backup Now can gain a read access to an open file, it is possible to back it up. Otherwise,it will be skipped. Live Backup Now can't back up files that are not accessible for reading (particularly, system files like pagefile.sys, files opened without sharing permission, loaded modules (EXEs and DLLs), etc.).
How can I restore a specific file?
Live Backup Now allows restoring any individual file or folder that are included in any existing backup or restore task. This is done through the Restore Wizard Tree View and the File View windows.
What does the mean the differnet colour of the backup files in job progress window?
Yellow – File not copied
Blue – File copied
Red - Error in backup thread, the program will retry later.
Can I backup several files or folders at the same time?
Yes, it is possible to backup several files and/or folders at the same time.
Live Backup Now manages all backup processes through Backup Jobs. A simple user interface allows you to add to a backup job as many files and folders as you want. Program architecture allows you to run several backup tasks simultaneously. However, it is not recommended to execute multiple jobs at the same time, as it consumes a lot of system resources.
Can the program do a full system backup?
Files-based backup. Files-based backup can't be used for full system backups. It doesn't provide a way to back up files that are not accessible for reading (particularly, system files like pagefile.sys, files opened without sharing permission, loaded modules (EXEs and DLLs), etc.). Therefore, it can not be used neither for backing up nor for restoring the whole operating system. However, it is fast and effective for "common" files and folders.
Can Live Backup Now back up to USB, FireWire and other external hard drives?
Yes, the program supports all types of local and external drives and works with them equally well. If you are looking for a software that can back up to external drives or planning to copy backup to USB hard drive, Live Backup Now will be your best choice! No matter what drive you are going to use, if it is recognizable by Windows Explorer, Live Backup Now can work with it.
How does Live backup Now handle deleted files and folders?
Before deleting or overwriting a file, Live Backup Now moves it to Deleted folder, if option Save Previous Versions of deleted/replaced files is enabled. So this is where you can find your missing files -- in Deleted folder, and you can retrive files using Windows Explorer.
Why are Hidden and System files and folders excluded from backup?
Because Hidden and System Files and Folders are usually not your personal files that you want to backup. They are system files that should be backed, as Windows reinstall will restore them.
To turn on this exclusion, go to Configuration -> General -> check Display Hidden/System Files and Folders options.
Can Live backup Now backup data files of Outlook, Outlook Express, etc?
All these applications (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Thunderbird ) store data in a database. So many (hundreds, even thousands) logical units (such as individual email, contact, or calendar entry) will be stuffed into a single database file.
Live Backup Now does not yet understand internal structure of all these database files (this will change in the future versions). So Live Backup Now can backup the whole database files, but not individual logical units stored inside these files.
How does the recovery of Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express email-databases work?
A recovery of email-databases (*.pst, *.dbx) is only possible if the program Outlook is closed completely. Possibly, Outlook has to be shut down additionally manually by the task manager in case the Outlook-process is still active after closing Outlook.
How do I check for and upgrade to the latest build of the software?
You may use built-in " Update" button in the software to check if any update is available, and download and install it on your computer manually. Or go to Configuration -> General -> check Check for update on startup, then the software will auto check if any update is avaiable when the program startup.
